Current Events 2: Wristband Sensors Can Detect, and Possibly Predict, Life-Threatening Seizures

Almost everyday many people suffer from seizures. The seizures people have nowadays are sudden.
To stop that MIT Media team developed a wristband that can tell the difference between the more benign breed of seizure and the one that might kill you, and may even be able to predict seizures before they strike. What they did is they gave the wristband to 11 children who needed brain surgery, and they were able to measure the seizure they had. They discovered this wristband at a MIT Media lab. This happened May 9th 2012. They made this wristband because people get sudden seizures and they need something to tell them when its coming. I think this is a very helpful wristband and could save peoples lives. The wristband can detect when seizures are coming, it will measure your seizure, and could alert their doctor.
Briefly, the wristband is a very smart idea and if made, it would save a lot of peoples lives. Also people who suffer seizures would be a little safe with the wristband.

Finger Blood Sugar test

Are you tired of poking your fingers for blood sugar? Many people never test there blood sugar because they hate poking their fingers to test their blood sugar. Scientists have found out a new way to test your blood sugar without poking your fingers.
This new way of testing your blood sugar is about a tiny micro electro mechanical machine. This machine is designed to be placed in your body and gives out signals if you have a high blood sugar or low blood sugar. This discovery was made at the U.S Fish and Wildlife Services Laboratories. What made this news so significant is that, this robot if developed could help humans control the blood glucose and body temperature of their bodies. This discovery was made on March 28, 2012. This robot made was because a lot of people do not want to test their blood sugar by poking there fingers.
My opinion on this new robotic machine is that it is a good idea because people don’t test their blood sugar because they need to poke their fingers. If this robot is developed then people will not get hurt. Their blood sugar or body temperature will not get too high or too low. Also, the greatest thing about this machine is people will not need to worry about there blood pressure or body temperature as much.

Briefly, I think that the micro electro mechanical machine is a fabulous idea because people wouldn’t have to be poking there fingers to test there blood sugar body temperature. Also, people would not need to worry about their blood sugar or their body temperature getting too high or too low.

Lab Blog

In class we did two labs about physical and chemical change. The two labs were lighting a candle and stating if it was chemical change or physical change. The other lab was cooking a marsh mellow and stating if either it is a chemical change or a physical change. Skills that I learned in these labs is, cooking a marsh mellow. Another skill I learned during this lab is gases are very quick and can disappear very fast so you need to be quick with gases.
 From these labs I have done I have learned so many cool and amazing facts. Information I have learned from the candle lab is the gases from the vinegar and baking soda can cut a fire circuit. The gas that went on the fire to put it out was co2 carbon dioxide. The flame goes out because fire needs oxygen to live. Putting the co2 carbon dioxide on the fire it would kill the fire. In this lab I observed some changes. The changes I observed is chemical change and physical change. The chemical change in the candle on fire was the wick of the candle. The wick first was white and was straightened. A couple of seconds after the fire burnt the wick the wick was no longer white(it was black) and it was bent into a shape of a candy cane.
From the marsh mellow lab I also learned so many new things. In a plate we had a small marsh mellow and a large marsh mellow. For the small we had to rip it in half which was a physical change. Then we used the big marsh mellows and hovered it over the Bunsen burners. When I put the marsh mellow over the Bunsen burner the outside of the marsh mellow burnt, which was a chemical change.


Procedure

1) Separating Substances- The first thing our group did was separate all of the items that were in the cup. Such as, rocks, salted water, iron fiolence, sticks and dirty sand.

2) Purifying Water- This step requires you to put the dirty salted water in a beaker.

3) Then, you get a graduated cylinder and put a plastic funnel on op of it. Next, put a piece of paper in the funnel and mold it to the shape of the funnel.

4) Pour the salted water from the beaker into the graduated cylinder to purify the water.

5) Then, pour the water back into the beaker and place the beaker on a hot plate and wait for results to appear.

6)After a short while the results should be that the water evaporated because of heat and all that’s left is the salt.

That all will reflect on to your future and you would have a successful life. If you have a good education and you are dedicated to the hard work and determination then anything is possible in the future.
